What is Phuket Sandbox Program?

Phuket Sandbox program officially started on 1 July 2021 allowing vaccinated international travelers to arrive directly in Phuket and stay there without quarantine. People traveling under the scheme are required to stay 15 days in one of the SHA Plus certified hotels such as Villa Tantawan Resort & Spa, but they are free to leave the hotel and explore Phuket Province during their stay.

What is SHA+ (SHA Plus) certification?

Thailand SHA Plus (SHA+) is the certification issued by Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration for their “Phuket Sandbox program”. In order to obtain the “PLUS” status, hotels or other enterprises need to have at least 70% of their staff vaccinated against COVID-19 in addition to being alrady SHA certified.

What is SHA certification?

The basic Amazing Thailand SHA (Safety & Health Administration) certification implies that the facility has passed the official government inspection for the standards of cleanliness, sanitation and other measures of prevention against COVID-19 to protect both their guests and their staff.

SHA Plus VS Regular SHA

When planning your holiday in Thailand please make sure that the accommodation you are booking is indeed an SHA PLUS facility and not a simple SHA. Some of the facilities are in fact certified SHA ONLY but not “PLUS”, and while they can still operate with domestic tourism they are not allowed to accommodate international travellers under the Phuket Sandbox program.

Phuket Sandbox Traveler Requirements

Apart from the SHA Plus hotel booking, travellers also require additional document for entering Thailand under the Phuket Sandbox program:

  • A visa to enter Thailand if required depending on nationality.

  • Insurance covering at least 100,000 USD against COVID 19 treatment expenses.

  • Proof of vaccination at least 14 days before departure.

  • A negative PCR test result within 72 hours before departure.

  • SHABA (SHA Plus Booking Authentication system) confirmation letter with QR Code from your SHA Plus Hotel*

  • Proof of payment for the required three COVID-19 Tests in Phuket (must be booked and prepaid with your SHA Plus hotel – they will take care of the logistics)

  • COE (Certificate of Entry), issued by the relevant Thai Authorities once the necessary requirements are met.

*Please don’t forget to ask your hotel for SHABA certificate.
