Kamala Waterfall

Kamala Waterfall (Bang Wan Waterfall) is a nice place to visit during your stay at Villa Tantawan. Although swimming here is not allowed for safety reasons, it is not far from the resort and it’s worth a visit for a short exploration to relax and indulge yourself surrounded by lush tropical nature. The waterfall consists of 4 levels but people can only get to the second level. The higher levels are too deep into the thick jungle.

Bang Wan Waterfall is situated approximately 2 Km from Villa Tantawan by road. You can get there either by walk by a short car/bike ride.

As for all the waterfalls in Phuket, It’s best to visit Kamala Waterfall during the summer months (May to Nov). During the rest of the year it can get pretty dry due to the more sporadic rainfall.

Jungle Trekking & Hiking

The word Phuket originates from the Malay word “Bukit” which means “hill”. This is because the island is characterized by tropical hills covered in jungle, some over 400 meters (1,300 ft) high. This, in combination with the countless jungle trails, creates endless opportunities for jungle trekking and hiking on Phuket Island!

The hills overlooking Kamala Beach, where Villa Tantawan is located, are among the best places to enjoy Phuket jungle trekking. There are trails starting directly from Villa Tantawan or nearby. From there you can hike over the hill all the way to Kalim View Point and even Kathu waterfall. You will experience great panoramic views and pristine tropical nature all around.

Most of the trails are quite steep and the weather here is usually hot and humid. For this reason, we recommend this activity only to people who are used to hiking and are reasonably fit. You should also wear suitable shoes and bring plenty of drinking water.

Surfing Kamala Beach

While Thailand is not world-famous for its waves, in recent years surfing has gained much popularity in the country. Phuket offers some of the best waves in Thailand, with Kamala Beach being one of the best Phuket surf spots! Kamala Beach normally offers the best waves at its northern end. Here is usually a gentle swell good for beginners or even those seasoned surfers who have fun in all conditions. If you need to rent a board you can easily find some at the beachfront stalls, or at the Phuket Watersports Club at the northern end of the beach (inside Intercontinental Resort) which also offers surf lessons.

NOTE: surfing in Phuket is possible only between May and November when the island is affected by the southwestern monsoon. During the rest of the year, the sea is mostly flat.
